A Healthier, Happier Life Starts with a Complete Smile

We Deliver Life-Changing Dental Implants Designed for Life

If you have missing teeth and are experiencing emotional side effects because you feel embarrassed to smile, you’re not alone. Numerous studies show tooth loss can lead to varying degrees of emotional distress. People have reported problems ranging from avoiding smiling and a loss of confidence to not wanting to venture out in public and a diminished social life. In addition, tooth loss can lead to declining oral health and function, negatively impacting your chewing and nutrition. A single missing tooth can cause loss of bone and shifting of surrounding teeth and increase the risk of bacteria and decay in adjacent teeth. Fortunately, dental implants are the ideal solution to prevent these issues from impacting your quality of life. If you’re suffering from tooth loss, we offer a variety of dental implant solutions at Magnolia Falls Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center. Dr. Brett M. Shigley is dedicated to improving the oral health and smiles of patients suffering from tooth loss with dental implants in Powdersville, SC.

“It’s emotionally rewarding to witness how dental implants significantly improve patients’ quality of life due to the amazing, long-term benefits that come with a fully restored smile!”

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant consists of a titanium post that replicates your natural tooth root, a metal connector piece called an abutment, and a customized crown that resembles and replaces your natural tooth. The type of restoration we create for you depends on how many teeth you’re missing, the health of underlying bone, and your personal preferences. Whether you replace one tooth, several missing teeth, or a full arch, dental implants improve your ability to eat comfortably, feel confident in a complete smile, and live an overall healthier and better quality of life.

Our Custom Dental Implant Solutions

We offer state-of-the-art tooth replacement solutions including single implants, immediate load, full mouth dental implants, zygomatic implants, and implant-supported dentures. The latter is an alternative to traditional dentures that maximizes the use of available bone with placement of a minimum of four implants. This stimulates the bone and provides stability for dentures so you’ll never have to worry about them slipping, clicking, or falling out. Zygomatic dental implants are placed in the cheekbone (zygoma), enabling people with severe bone loss in their upper jaw (maxilla) to receive dental implants without the need to rebuild sufficient bone volume required for conventional implants. The dental implant is much longer and requires extensive drilling and precision preplanning, therefore it’s only offered by a few select practices in the U.S. If you have severe bone loss in your upper jaw, it’s important to seek care from a highly trained oral surgeon like Dr. Shigley who has the right anatomical knowledge and expertise to successfully place this more complex type of dental implant.

How Our Dental Implant Treatment Process Works

During your initial visit, we’ll discuss your dental and medical history, take digital x-rays, ask you about your smile goals, and create a customized treatment plan. With our dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) machine, a detailed 3D digital image is created of your mouth and jaw. Dr. Shigley uses this image to place your dental implants “virtually,” a process that provides an idea of what the end result will look like before the procedure starts. This also enables creating a precise plan that eliminates guesswork and ensures accurate placement in the most optimal sites the day of your implant surgery.

Aided by this custom surgical guide, a small incision is made in your gums and the implant is placed underneath the gums into your jawbone. If you lack sufficient jawbone volume to support an implant, Dr. Shigley has expertise in different bone grafting techniques including sinus lifts and ridge augmentation to restore optimal jawbone health and ensure successful implant outcomes. If you have severe bone loss in your upper jaw, you may be a candidate for zygomatic implants placed in your cheekbone without the need for grafting. One or more temporary replacement teeth (e.g. dental crown or implant-supported denture) are attached to the implant posts. After placement, it takes three to six months for the biocompatible implant to fuse with your existing bone through a process called osseointegration. After a short recovery period, you’ll be able to eat comfortably and enjoy a complete smile until you receive your permanent, custom-made restoration.

Why Dental Implants Are the Gold Standard Tooth Replacement

Dental implants provide many advantages compared to other tooth replacement options. Unlike dental bridges, dental implants don’t require adjacent healthy teeth to support the restoration. Although traditional dentures can restore some oral health function, progressive bone loss is inevitable without the stimulation provided by natural teeth. When we place dental implants in Powdersville, SC, both your teeth and the root structure that supports them is replaced, thereby encouraging bone growth while creating a healthier, stronger smile. After dental implants fuse with your jawbone, they offer superior strength and stability and restore nearly 100% of natural biting and chewing power. While other tooth replacement options need to be repaired or replaced periodically, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime! For these reasons, implants are a preferred solution for most of our patients.
